The Sacrifice is Worth It

Published: August 31, 2005
Yet after 2003, the flow of federal dollars toward SELA (Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project) dropped to a trickle. The Corps never tried to hide the fact that the spending pressures of the war in Iraq, as well as homeland security — coming at the same time as federal tax cuts — was the reason for the strain. At least nine articles in the Times-Picayune from 2004 and 2005 specifically cite the cost of Iraq as a reason for the lack of hurricane- and flood-control dollars.

bush I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees.

tina No, you know who anticipate stuff like that? The Dutch – those liberal morons – with their anti-war policies – gay marriage – legal drugs, legal prostitution, low crime rate and successful dikes and levees. It’s disgusting. We don’t want to be anything like them.

bush Congress had an emergency session to deal with this crisis.

tina Yes, the crisis HAS reached Terri Schiavo level.

bush Life is precious. We want to preserve our culture of life.

tina Wait – wait Mr. President, we shouldn’t politicize this tragedy yet. Save it for next week’s photo op.

Hey, we the Dutch aren’t morons! Think about this.. if Katrina would come to the Netherlands, it would wipe out our country in an hour.

I think everyone’s having fun with this, from bloggers like ourselves to the Mayor of New Orleans, according to his quoted comments!

I’d like to extend an invite, if you have the chance – I’ve posted an ‘Essay Question’ about When the Shrub met Katrina, based on my comment on Martian Anthropologist’s site.

I’d love to have your thoughts!

Ah, yes. The Netherlands. I wear my speedos all the time – just in case water levels start to reach alarming heights.

You could add euthanasia, wooden shoes and spermashow on your list of all things Dutch.

Gas prices are in all time high over here, around 3 times more than what you pay in the US. Ironicly, according to AirInc, the cheapest gallon you will find in – suspenseful drumming here – Venezuela.

You saw my campaign banner for the Oil for Pat Program?

Is it possible to wear speedos and not look european? You could be from Mongolia – but if youre wearing speedos – you suddenly look very French.

Yes, I did see the banner 🙂
I think it would be a fair trade – replace one smeary thing with another.

I hope this idea of looking French in speedos doesn’t cause any problem with the brand since, you know, all things French…I would hate to go buy some new Freedom(tm) swimwear in the future.
